Why stand when you can lay?

Truffle laying down for a snack
I took it as a compliment that the badgers were so relaxed in my garden that they would lay down to have a snack. The ground was rock hard with the heatwave and I would put out a handful of nuts or grapes for them. They were still observant and If I got up to move around the house they would retreat, but if I stayed still and talked quietly they were quite happy to be nearby. I sometimes wondered who was watching who?
Compared to the pictures I took a few months ago (see blog 22nd May) I could see how Truffle had grown and filled out. It was still identifiable by wide white head stripe, rounded fluffy ears and a little notch in the fur below its left eye, but its colour had started to get darker and the reddish tinge to the fur had gone. It was still one of the bolder characters and its demeaner also made it easy to identify, grapes were still a firm favourite snack.
